This crochet child size headband is so quick to make, your little one will be sporting a new look before you know it!
It is easy to change up with different yarns, widths and embellishments. This is also a bubble stitch headband to crochet, as this stitch is sometimes referred to s the bubble stitch.
Supplies For Child’s Crochet Headband
- Worsted weight yarn – approximately 25-40 yds
- Scraps of fingering or DK weight yarn for flowers
- Size H crochet hook (5mm)
- Size C crochet hook (2.5mm)
- Pony tail holder
- Tapestry needle
Take the measurment of the child’s head, using the tape measure to sit roughly how the headband is intended to sit once complete. Stretch the pony tail holder/rubber band to see how much it stretches. subtract that length from the length of the first measurement. That will give you the length needed for your headband. For Bubble this ended up being 18 inches.
With worsted weight yarn and larger hook, work six single crochet over the pony tail holder. Of course you can choose to do either fewr or more stitches if you want a narrower or wider band. Chain 1 and turn.
For this headband I decided I wanted to do a pebble stitch.
With an even number of stitches each row is the same. *SC, DC* repeat across, chain 1 turn
For an odd number of stitches you would work as follows Row one *SC, DC* repeat across, chain 1 turn. Row two *DC, SC* repeat across, chain 1 turn.
Simply – single crochet in the double crochets and vice vera. Super easy. But it really gives a nice texture to the headband.
When you have worked the desired length crochet a row of single crochet around the pony tail holder on the opposite side of the beginning, taking care not to twist your headband. (Unless, of course, you WANT to make a ttwisted headband. Those can be cute too!)
Weave in the ends.
Make as many flowers as desired as follows.
With smaller hook and lighter weight yarn work the following 5 times in a magic circle. SC, DC, TC, DC, SC.
Tighten ring to create your simple flowwer.
Use the ends of your flowers to sew them to your headband, placing them as desired. Weave in ends on wrong side of headband.
Obviously, you can create headbands for adults with this technique as weel. This child’s crochet headband patterns is easily adapable to create just the look you want.
