90 Minute Mitts Free Pattern
Creating this free crochet fingerless mitts pattern was fun. I soon realized that making a set of them was taking me a little over an hour. I generally crochet pretty quickly. So making a set of these for quick gifts will become an easy make, at least until I tire of making them.
I made my mama a gorgeous mulberry colored pair, but I forgot to take pictures. She lives almost 80 miles away, so it might be a bit before I make it out to see her again real soon.
For the yellow ones pictured I was able to get 2 complete pair out of one skein. Those are The 90 Minute Mitts Pattern What you will need: 55-90 grams worsted weight yarn crochet hook size G or H depending on gauge darning needled to sew mits together you will need to know how to: chain (ch), single crochet (sc), half double crochet, (hdc) and slip stitch (ss) Gauge is approximately 23 hdc stitches and 10 rows hdc 4″ square Instructions are for adult small, with changes for adult medium in parenthesis.
Row 1 – begin with 21 ch, sc in second chain from hook and sc across, ch 1, 20 sc.
Row 2 – sc in back loop only of first sc and in each sc across, ch 1, 20 sc.
Rows 3-32 (34) – repeat row 2, chain one and turn work so that you are now crocheting down one of the long sides of the ribbing.
Row 1 of palm/hand portion – sc in each row across, 32 (34) single sc. Chain 2, turn.
Row 2 – * hdc in first stich, sc in next stitch* repeat across row, ending with a sc. 32 (34) stiches, Chain 3 turn.
Rows 3-14 reapeat row 2. End row, leaving an 8 inch tail for seaming above the thumb opening.
Determine thumb opening placement and sew from top of mitt to the top of the thumb opening. Fasten off.
Thread darning needle with 18-24 inches of yarn. Seam from the bottom of the mitt to the bottom of the thumb opening. Finish off. Weave in all ends, Turn right side out.
These are super easy to adjust the size. I actually made the ones for my mama a little longer in the palm/hand section, so that they cover more of her fingers. I did 16 rows of the hdc, sc alternating pattern stitch for those
Making the ribbed cuff longer or shorter is easy as well. For a shorter cuff, 7 stiches is a great length. But you should experiment and see what gives you the look you like.
Happy crafting!
